The most important, and often overlooked aspect of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah – is how connected the child feels to what he or she is performing during the service. Many synagogues are overwhelmed with demands. Too little time, too many students, not enough staff….and families are left frustrated. More often than not the children learn how to recite prayers – but do not understand their meanings. They spend months memorizing their Haftarah – but never get a chance to find out what it’s about!
